Formerly enslaved families founded Kendleton, Texas after emancipation. Today, a 40-foot monument etched with Adinkra symbols from West Africa stands at Juneteenth Plaza in Bates Allen Park to honor them and every generation that follows.

 

The 36-acre campus in Fort Bend County is a place to walk, experience and reflect on the full story of this community. The trails, the reflection pond, and the exhibits hold a history that is proud, painful, and important.
